Jason Smith has never been like other children. He's always been unusually short. He's always been unusually angsty. He's always had the power to shoot fire from his hands. Like most teenagers, he blamed his differences on his parents. After all, if they hadn't chosen to become superheroes, he would have been perfectly normal (albeit short and angsty). But they did and now they were dead and it was entirely his fault. Now he and his brother are stuck with a supervillain for a guardian; a supervillain who wears sweaters, makes hot cocoa, and constantly makes him feel better. What a nightmare.

I can't say how much I love this book. The story is charming enough, but the characters are what make it worth the read. Lucius is a hilarious and lovable guardian who, despite the fact that he's a supervillain, serves as a strong moral compass for two orphaned children of his former superhero rivals/friends. Jason is an incredibly relatable hot-headed teenager who struggles with controlling both his emotions and his pyrokinetic super powers, usually at the same time - on top of being a breath of fresh air in terms of representation as a disabled, polyamorous, male bisexual who isn't painted at all negatively for any of those traits. Reading a story about a teenager who finds unquestioning, unconditional love and acceptance growing up with things that I, personally, struggled a great deal with at that age was beyond cathartic.
Also featured are several other disabled characters, a nonbinary character, and (unrelated to the much-appreciated representation), a few references to The Defectives which were amusing, though not so integral to the story that you'll be missing out if you haven't read it (though, do, anyway).

Absolutely love it!
This was a really good read
I love the way youve written this book and i love all the characters. On my way to read more of your books
Such a good book I couldn't put it down! She is one of my favorite authors. Nobody else writes like her 💜💙💚💛
I almost missed my class because I was reading this book. I hurt my neck reading this book on a park bench. I had to make a rule that I couldn't read before timely things because of this book. And I don't regret a thing. Wonderful story, memorable characters, and great humor. I wanted One Day for a long time before I was able to buy it, and I'd buy it again.
This book was amazing. Although it isn't necessary to enjoy this book, you should probably read Burgandi Rokoska's other books. There are many characters and references that are from her other books. You should definitely read The Defectives first because there are several characters that appear in this book. There are several references to her series The Antagonists, but it isn't necessary to enjoy One Day.
